Union Movement Sportive (UMS) of Loum through its management have opened a legal battle against Cameroon’s football Federation (FECAFOOT) boss, Samuel Eto’o Fils at the ethics committee of the institution while stating it is unethical for the president to be the ambassador of 1Xbet.

The top tier club claims representing and branding the image of a gambling company is a negative impact on football in the country and reiterates the Federation’s code of Ethics stipulates the image and integrity of football ought to be guaranteed.

In a complain filed to the Federation’s Ethics commission, UMS of Loum are requesting that Samuel Eto’o be suspended for six years from any football related activity as backed by article six and eight of the institution’s ethical principles.

The club has equally tabled their complain before the Ministry of Sports and physical education, the Confederation of African football as well as the world football governing body, FIFA.

Samuel Eto’o was named the brand ambassador of 1XBET last month om a two-year deal, replacing former Indomitable lion and current coach Rigobert Song Bahanag.

The much talked about recent deal has been received with mixed feelings but without any official comment of rejection before now.

UMS of Loum and FECAFOOT have been in a fued lately. It all started when heavy sanctions were imposed on the club for boycotting their Cameroon cup clash, having accused the Federation of owing them huge sums of money.

The club was hit by a dismissal from the ongoing Cameroon Cup and equally the next edition (2024), their president Pierre Kwemo and wives suspended from all football related activities for five years.

Added to this, was a fine of 5 million CFA francs the club has been ordered to pay, a situation many consider as FECAFOOT’s way of getting back at the club for questioning them.

In 2019, the football Legend had opened his own betting company named after him, ‘BETOO’, but didn’t face a similar backlash.

The future of the Cameroon Football Federation looks uncertain as threat hovers around Eto’o’s mandate, jeopardising his position as leader of the country’s football federation.
