Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe have dedicated their first-leg semi-final win against Istanbul FA of Buea in the Southwest Regional League to Joel Etogue, who passed on thisJune 28.
Etogue, defender for the Limbe outfit died at the Laquintini Hospital in Douala hospital, following an accident last Friday while on his way to training in Limbe.
“It’s a very tough moment for everyone in the ISOHSA family. We contemplated abandonment of the game today, but finally decided to play in honor of a very dedicated man. Etogue fought hard for his life, but the cold hands of death decided to take him away from us.
“As it was during his time in the hospital, we will stay closer to his family through this tough moment. Today’s result dedicated to this great leader of our team. Just like he encouraged us when he was unavailable to play, we will give our best to achieve qualification in honor of his contribution to the growth of our young club,” The club’s Communications department told kick442.com
The Limbe-based outfit defeated Istanbul FA of Buea, courtesy of a lone 32nd minute goal from Ivan Berthauld this Tuesday at the Middle Farms stadium.
Etogue joined ISOHSA this season from FC Ebolowa and featured six times for the club. His last appearance was the 0-1 defeat against Options Sports Academy less than a month ago.
“Essi money” he was fondly called, had spells with the likes of Yong Sport academy of Bamenda, UMS of Loum, EEMSA of Tiko, Kumba Lakers, Little Foot FC, FC Ebolowa and Tiko United FC.
The former U-20 international achieved the highlight of his career at UMS of Loum, where he won the MTN Elite One championship twice and a cup of Cameroon title as skipper.
The prolific defender will be greatly missed by the ISOHSA family, his wife and children, mother, siblings, friends and the entire football family.
