Iran senior men’s national team pipped their counterpart from Burkina Faso 2-1 in an international friendly match at the Kish Olympic Football Stadium, Kish on Friday.
The Asian side had to come from a goal down to record a slim win over the African team using the game to prepare for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Mohamed Konate scored the first goal of the encounter for the West African side in the 16th minute of play.
On the dot of 45 minutes, FC Porto forward, Mehdi Taremi equalised for Iran as both sides shared the spoils at halftime.
After 11 substitutions were effected by the Iranian coach, the changes paid off as one of the new entrants, Omid Ebrahimi converted the winning goal in the 70th minute.
The Burkinabe will next face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in another friendly match on January 10, 2024, before traveling to Cote d’Ivoire for AFCON 2023 starting on January 1, 2024.
They have will play in Group D alongside Algeria, Mauritania, and Angola at the Buake centre.
