TP Mazembe have secured the services of promising Cameroonian winger Patient Wassou on a long-term contract.

The 19-year-old has signed a deal for more than two years with the DR Congo giants, following a successful trial period in Lubumbashi. The agreement has been finalised, with only the official unveiling pending.

Wassou, a former standout at Coton Sport de Garoua, had been without a club in recent months and was exploring options across the continent. His performances during his trial reportedly impressed Mazembe’s technical staff, prompting the club to move quickly to secure his signature.

Though no longer tied to Coton Sport, Wassou remains widely recognised for his breakthrough seasons with the Cameroonian champions, where his flair, speed, and attacking versatility earned him national attention.

Rising Through the Ranks

Wassou has represented Cameroon at every youth level — from U17 to U23 — and was part of the squad that competed in major continental youth tournaments. His progress through the national team ranks culminated in a senior call-up in 2022, where he was named as an unused substitute during the decisive FIFA World Cup play-off against Algeria, which saw the Indomitable Lions secure their spot at Qatar 2022.

Despite not yet making his senior debut, the experience marked him as one of the most promising young attackers in Cameroonian football.

Mazembe’s Youth Project

TP Mazembe, five-time CAF Champions League winners, are currently undergoing a transitional phase, aiming to blend youth with experience to reassert themselves among Africa’s elite clubs. Wassou’s arrival is part of a broader recruitment strategy focused on long-term development and continental competitiveness.

Known for his ability to operate as a left winger or inside forward, Wassou is expected to inject pace and creativity into Mazembe’s attacking setup.

He has already joined up with the squad and could be in line for his debut in upcoming domestic or CAF interclub fixtures.
