Oshoala, Abiodun, Nnadozie, Super Falcons get CAF Awards shortlist

Ahead of next Monday’s 2023 CAF Awards, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the shortlist of the final three nominees for the awards.

For the women’s players of the year, Nigeria’s senior women’s national team forward, Asisat Oshoala is in line for her sixth award.

She will contest with South African striker, Thembi Kgathlana and Zambian captain, Barbara Banda.

In the goalkeeper category, Super Falcons save hands, Chiamaka Nnadozie will battle it out for the gong with Moroccan goalie, Khadija Er-rmichi and Andile Dlamini (South Africa).

Nigeria and University of Pittsburgh youngster, Deborah Abiodun also made the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year alongside Comfort Yeboah (Ghana and Ampem Darkoa) and Nesryne El Chad (Morocco).

Super Falcons made the shortlist for women’s national team of the year with Morocco and South Africa after the triokas made it to the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In other categories, Reynald Pedros (Morocco), Desiree Ellis (South Africa), and Jerry Tshabalala (South Africa) will jostle for the coach of the year in the women’s football category.

Sundowns Ladies duo of Refilwe Tholakale and Lebohang Ramalepe will battle it out with Fatima Tagnaout (AS FAR, Morocco) for the interclub player of the year

The top three clubs at the end of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Sporting Club Casablanca, and AS FAR made the final three for the women’s club of the year.
