Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon defender, Marie-Aurelle Awona has joined Japanese women’s football league club-Mynavi Sendai Ladies for the 2023/24 football season.

She joins the top-flight club who finished 4th in the league last season, from portuguese side SC Braga where she spent one season, made 16 appearances and scored a goal. They finished third in the league and second in the cup.

This would be the former Napoli defender’s 10th club since she began her career with FC Domont in 2007.

Awona, 30, as at now becomes the only Cameroonian player plying her trade in Japan, after spells in France, Italy, Spain amongst others.

The club faces Sanfrecce Hiroshima Regina this Saturday, August 26 in the WE League cup.

The Cameroonian defender begins a new challenge in a new environment, where she will begin creating her chances of maintaining her place in the National with the coming of a new coach, Jean Baptiste Bisseck who has replace Gabriel Zabo.

She made her debut with the Cameroon national team in 2015 during the FIFA women’s World Cup. She counts 36 caps for Cameroon.
