Former Nigeria international Julius Efosa Aghahowa running for elections of a top football administrator in Edo State, Nigeria.
According to multiple sources, the former forward is one of the candidates for the position of vice chairman in next month’s elections.
The 40-year-old native of Benin city is joined by 18 other candidates including incumbent Roland Abu also vying for the prestigious position
The state’s elective congress scheduled for March 3 in Benin is expected to produce executives to accompany the national body for the next four years.
The former Esperance, Shaktar Donetsk and Wigan Athletic striker who scored 14 goals in 32 caps for his country has worked his way into the hearts of many in the football ecosystem even after his retirement, thus increasing his chances.
The likes of Johnbull Edosomwan, Fred Newton and Vicor Egbon are also in the running for the priced seat.
During his days as a player, Aghahowa won four Ukraine top-flight championship and the Tunisian Premier League among others.
The likes of Kalusha Bwalya, George Opong Weah, Samuel Eto’o, Andriv Shevchenko got into politicking after their football career and did well at least during elections. Aghahowa is certainly hoping for a similar fate.
