Cameroonian footballers made their presence felt across Europe, Africa and the United States over the weekend of October 17–18, with Danny Namaso delivering a sensational performance in France, Bryan Mbeumo scoring for Manchester United, Vincent Aboubakar deciding a game in Turkey and Jean-Hugues Eyango Priso helping Colombe Sportive du Sud take a major step towards the CAF Champions League group stage.

The weekend also brought impressive displays from Arthur Avom and Malcom Bokele, while Souaibou Marou produced a hat-trick to help Charlotte Independence secure a title in the United States. From decisive goals to important contributions in midfield and defence, several Cameroonians had reasons to celebrate.

Namaso delivers the performance of the weekend

Danny Namaso was arguably Cameroon’s standout performer after scoring twice and providing an assist in AJ Auxerre’s 3-1 victory away to Le Havre in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The forward opened the scoring in the 40th minute before doubling Auxerre’s advantage in the 61st. He subsequently turned provider for Romain Faivre in the 80th minute, completing a performance in which he contributed directly to all three goals.

Namaso played the entire match and demonstrated his ability to influence a game through both finishing and creativity. His display was particularly important for Auxerre, who needed an effective attacking performance to secure three points away from home.

The Cameroon international continues to establish himself as an important attacking option in France, with his latest contribution providing another positive sign for the Indomitable Lions.

Mbeumo scores, but Manchester United settle for a draw

Bryan Mbeumo was also on target, opening the scoring for Manchester United in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Leeds United on Sunday.

The Cameroonian forward struck in the 35th minute, giving United the advantage. Leeds responded after the interval, however, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised in the 51st minute to ensure the points were shared.

Mbeumo once again demonstrated his attacking importance, but the result meant his goal was not enough to secure victory for his team.

For Cameroon, the forward’s continued involvement in United’s attack remains encouraging as the season progresses.

Aboubakar wins it for Bodrum FK

Vincent Aboubakar delivered a decisive contribution in Turkey, scoring the winning goal as Bodrum FK came from behind to defeat Bandırmaspor 2-1 on Saturday.

Aboubakar scores in successive matches

Bodrum fell behind in the 57th minute before Ege Bilsel equalised in the 68th. Aboubakar then completed the comeback three minutes later, scoring in the 71st minute to secure all three points.

The goal underlined the experienced striker’s value in decisive situations. His ability to turn a tight contest in his team’s favour remains one of his most important qualities, and the weekend’s performance added another positive chapter to his campaign in Turkey.

Eyango Priso fires Colombe towards continental history

Jean-Hugues Eyango Priso was one of the biggest Cameroonian success stories on the African continent after opening the scoring in Colombe Sportive du Sud’s 2-0 away victory over Teungueth FC of Senegal in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary-round tie on Sunday.

Eyango Priso struck in the 13th minute, putting the Cameroonian champions in front at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar. Ghanaian forward Adam Musah doubled the advantage in the 47th minute, giving Colombe a valuable cushion ahead of the return leg in Yaoundé on October 25.

The result puts the reigning Cameroonian champions in a strong position to pursue a historic first appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage. Colombe had previously eliminated Stade Malien on penalties after two goalless matches in the opening round.

Eyango Priso’s goal was especially significant following his return from Austria and his decision to rejoin Colombe on a two-year contract. His attacking contribution in Dakar demonstrated why the club will be counting on him as it seeks to move beyond the second preliminary round, where its continental campaign ended last season.

Colombe must still complete the job at home, but the two-goal away win represents a major step forward for the club and Cameroonian football.

Souaibou Marou scores a hat-trick in the United States

Souaibou Marou enjoyed a memorable Saturday, scoring all three goals in Charlotte Independence’s 3-0 victory over Greenville Triumph in USL League One.

The former Coton Sport forward’s hat-trick helped Charlotte secure the regular-season title, making the occasion even more special for the Cameroonian attacker.

Marou’s goalscoring exploits have continued to attract attention in the United States. His latest performance demonstrated his ability to lead an attack and deliver when the stakes are high.

For a player who previously represented Cameroon at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, his form provides a reminder of the attacking qualities he possesses.

Nsongo Bil scores first La Liga goal for Deportivo

Cameroon forward Bil Nsongo marked another important milestone on Friday, October 16, scoring his first goal in Spain’s top flight as Deportivo La Coruña drew 1-1 with Levante. The 22-year-old striker put Deportivo ahead in the 62nd minute after a fine attacking move created by Yeremay Hernández. However, Dani Requena equalised for Levante late in the match, denying Deportivo all three points.

Despite the disappointing result, Nsongo’s goal was a personal breakthrough for the former Canon Yaoundé forward, who has continued his rapid rise since moving to Spain. Having already established himself as a promising attacking option, the Cameroonian will hope the landmark strike opens the door to more goals in La Liga.

Arthur Avom helps Lorient defeat Monaco

Arthur Avom contributed to an important victory for FC Lorient, who defeated AS Monaco 1-0 in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The Cameroonian midfielder started the encounter and played an important role in Lorient’s work in possession. He completed 61 of his 66 passes, recording approximately 92 per cent passing accuracy, and also produced a key pass.

Noah Cadiou scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, but Avom’s contribution in midfield helped Lorient manage the contest against a strong opponent.

The performance was another positive step for the young midfielder, whose work rate and ability to circulate possession make him an important option for his club.

Malcom Bokele celebrates with Göztepe

In Turkey, defender Malcom Bokele was part of the Göztepe side that defeated Kocaelispor 2-1 away from home in the Süper Lig.

Bokele’s contribution came in a defensive role as Göztepe secured another valuable league victory. The Cameroonian has continued to establish himself as an important member of the Turkish side, with his defensive responsibilities and leadership adding to his value.

While he did not headline the weekend’s goalscoring list, his involvement in a winning performance was another positive development for a Cameroonian defender seeking consistency at club level.

Jean-Charles Castelletto finds the net in Qatar

Jean-Charles Castelletto also enjoyed a productive weekend, scoring for Al-Duhail in their 3-2 victory over Al-Sadd in the Qatari league.

The Cameroonian defender’s goal added to an impressive result for Al-Duhail in a closely contested match. His contribution was another reminder that Cameroonian players continue to make an impact in leagues beyond Europe.

Castelletto’s ability to contribute offensively as well as perform his defensive duties will be encouraging for both club and country.

Enzo Boyomo remains solid for Osasuna

Enzo Boyomo was another Cameroonian defender to enjoy a positive result, playing the full match as Osasuna defeated Racing Santander 2-0.

The defender produced a solid performance, completing his tackles, winning his ground duels and recording six clearances and five recoveries. He also completed 20 of his 23 passes.

Boyomo’s display was less about spectacular attacking contributions and more about reliability at the back, helping Osasuna keep a clean sheet and secure victory.

A difficult weekend for Harouna and Ondoa

Not every Cameroonian enjoyed the same success. Young forward Harouna Djibirin came off the bench for Angers in their 5-2 defeat to Marseille on Sunday.

Djibirin entered the match for the closing stages as Angers struggled to contain Marseille’s attacking threat. The defeat overshadowed what was otherwise a weekend of encouraging individual performances for several Cameroonians.

Goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa also experienced disappointment as Birkirkara lost 2-0 to Marsaxlokk in Malta. The result represented another setback for the club as it seeks to regain consistency in its domestic campaign.

A weekend of goals, progress and promise

The weekend of October 17–18 offered several positive talking points for Cameroonian football. Namaso was the most productive attacker, with two goals and an assist, while Mbeumo and Aboubakar found the net in England and Turkey.

Marou’s hat-trick helped Charlotte Independence secure a regular-season title, while Eyango Priso’s goal set Colombe on their way to a valuable continental victory in Senegal. Castelletto also found the net in Qatar, and Avom and Boyomo made important contributions to victories for their respective clubs.

These performances underline the breadth of Cameroonian talent competing around the world. The next challenge will be to sustain that form, secure regular playing time and continue translating club success into opportunities for the Indomitable Lions.
