Unisport of Bafang will this weekend at 8:15 pm take another shot at maintaining its lead at the top of the MTN Elite one standing when they take on fifth place Canon Sportif of Yaounde at the Bafang municipal stadium on Saturday, which kickstarts Matchday 18 games.

The Elite one returnees are coming into this game on the back of 9 games unbeaten, which has seen them occupy top spot on the table and will be hoping to make it a 10th straight against their opponents who are on a five game undefeated streak. They lead the table with 39 points, 11 ahead of second place Colombe whose failed to reduce the gap following two consecutive draws in the previous matchdays.
Mathematically, Unisport needs just 16pts from 27 available to be Elite One champions.

On Sunday, 13th placed Aigle Royal of Mungo will at 3pm be hoping to keep their current form consistent when they welcome defending champions, Colombe Sportive of Dja and Lobo who lie in 5th position at the Melong Municipal stadium.

On paper, this would be an easy win for Richard Towa’s boys but in reality, Colombe sportive have failed to win their last two games, but are unbeaten in their last six, and would want to avoid an upset against home side Aigle Royal of Mungo, who at the beginning of the second half of the season, defeated visitors and record champions Coton sport of Garoua by 2 goals to 0.

Speaking of the record champions, Coton sport of Garoua will go against a financially motivated Fauvre Azur of Yaounde at the Annex1 of the ominisport stadium at 4 pm, with the hopes of getting back to back win for the first time in this second half of the Season, while the same venue will at 2pm see Gazelle FA of Garoua hosted by last placed AS fortuna of Mfou who will be hoping to end a losing streak of 7 games in the Elite one championship.

Dynamo of Douala who sits fourth, will be in search of a fifth game without defeat under new coach, Jean Baptiste Bisseck when they welcome 10th place Stade renard of melong at the Bepanda Omnisport stadium at 3:30pm.
Meanwhile PWD of Bamenda, who have gone four matches winless, will play away to Panthere Sportive of Nde at the Badjoun stadium at 3pm.

2024 champions, Victoria United will travel to the west region to take on Aigle Royal of Menoua at the Bamendzi stadium in Baffousam on Sunday, May 10.

Aigle has not lost a match at home this season. They’ve played six home games, won three, drawn three and are currently on a four match unbeaten run.

“OPOPO” on the other hand, has proving ending unbeaten records at home is no big deal!

As it stands, the title race is still open, as the five teams tailing Unisport can challenge them; Colombe, Cotonsport, Dynamo, Canon and Victoria United. To ensure they stay in a good position to contest the title, these teams do not need to drop the least point in the remaining nine matches as every point dropped will see Unisport go further at the top.
