  • CAF President Patrice Motsepe has called for a strengthened partnership between FECAFOOT and MINSEP to address ongoing tensions and administrative challenges affecting Cameroon football.
  • Motsepe emphasized the need for unity to enhance the national team’s performance, particularly ahead of crucial AFCON qualification matches.
  • Marc Brys outing with Dhnet May further escalate tension

Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has called for a strengthened collaboration between the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP).

This appeal comes amidst ongoing tensions and administrative challenges affecting Cameroon football, which began in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup qualification matches back in june

Motsepe made his remarks during the funeral of former CAF president Issa Hayatou in Garoua, where he underscored the critical need for unity to bolster the national team’s performance. He urged Samuel Eto’o, the FA president, to collaborate closely with the government, specifically with Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, to ensure a cohesive approach.

He stated “I ask my brother Samuel Eto’o President of FECAFOOT to work in synergy with the government of Cameroon, particularly the Minister of Sports”.

The backdrop of this call reveals a fraught relationship between FECAFOOT and MINSEP, marked by a power struggle and conflicting management philosophies.

Recent developments have left preparations for the September matches in limbo, as both parties have yet to agree on a venue. While FECAFOOT has proposed the Japoma Stadium, speculation suggests that Brys favors Yaoundé. With just three weeks to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Brys has yet to announce a preliminary squad, further complicating matters.

Despite previous attempts to align their objectives, the ongoing discord has resulted in a fragmented management structure, jeopardizing the national team’s chances for success on the continental stage.

Tensions are expected to escalate following Brys’s recent comments to a sports portal,Dehnet, where he criticized Eto’o’s administration and its interference with the team’s operations under the former coach , Rigobert Song

Motsepe’s intervention is seen as a pivotal moment in addressing these issues. By promoting a collaborative environment, he aims to facilitate effective communication and decision-making between FECAFOOT and MINSEP.

This partnership is not only crucial for immediate performance but also for the long-term sustainability and growth of football in Cameroon, as the nation strives to reclaim its status as a dominant force in African football.
