Former Cameroon internationals Jourdain Mbaynaissem and Ahmad Toure Ngouyamsa Nounchil have switched international allegiance from Cameroon to Chad, bringing an end to their desire to represent the five-time African champions in the senior national team.
30-year-old Mbaynaissem and 23-year-old Ngouyamsa have been included in the Chad squad to play against Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire in next month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches.
Mbaynaissem was part of Cameroon’s squad in the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria while Ngouyamsa played for Cameroon’s U-17 team during the 2017 AFCON tournament for that category and featured for Cameroon in a goalless draw against Japan in a friendly back in October 2020. Both men have accepted their slim chance of representating Cameroon at senior international level and settled for the Sao of Chad ahead of their maiden appearance in the final qualifying round of the AFCON.
The 25-man Sao of Chad squad released earlier this week included Mbaynaissem as one of the three Goalkeepers for the camp while France-based Ngouyamsa is amongst the defenders retained.
The move will improve current Chadian squad of players and increase Chad’s chances to compete in the qualifier group that includes previously winners Cote d’Ivoire, Zambia and AFCON 2021 participants Sierra Leone.
They will start their qualification campaign away to Sierra Leone before returning home for the big event.
Chad versus Cote d’Ivoire in Group G of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers has been scheduled in Yaoundé. Coach Kevin Nacaise’s Chad team will have the privilege to welcome the Elephants at their adopted home on the chilled Tuesday evening in what will count for match day two of the qualifiers.
The game will mark Cote d’Ivoire’s first visit to Yaoundé since they were beaten 4-1 by the Vincent Aboubakar and Njie Clinton inspired Cameroon team in September 2014 en route to the continental jamboree in Equatorial Guinea. Subsequent visits for AFCON 2021 and the 2022 FIFA world cup qualification playoffs didn’t end well for the West Africans in Douala.
Whatever be the result in Chad’s away game against Sierra Leone, the home match against Cote d’Ivoire who face Zambia on match day one will be a cracker.
The coming of Cote d’Ivoire to Cameroon (la belle famille) is already a big event, talk less of Frank Kessie’s nation coming for an AFCON qualifier clash against Chad and in their status as African champions.

It’s worth noting that CAF’s stringent requirements for international matches to be played in a country have forced Chad and Central Africa Republic to adopt Cameroon as their new home for club and country matches.
