Cameroon has been chosen as the pilot market for a new Ligue 1 McDonald’s initiative designed to bring the French top-flight championship closer to African fans and brands.

UuThe initiative is being led in Cameroon by 6Sports Marketing Advertising, headed by N’Degué Barnabé Yannick, as the agency works with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to develop new forms of fan engagement and commercial activation around Ligue 1 McDonald’s.

The Cameroon project is intended to test how the French championship can build stronger connections with supporters in the country while adapting its experience to the economic and cultural realities of the African market.

For N’Degué Barnabé Yannick, the vision goes beyond simply bringing Ligue 1 McDonald’s to Cameroon.

“We do not want simply to bring Ligue 1 McDonald’s to Cameroon. We want to contribute to building a genuine Ligue 1 experience, designed for African audiences and connected to the economic and cultural realities of the market.”

He said 6Sports’ role is to create bridges between the international sporting property, its supporters and brands seeking to participate in the project.

A gateway to Francophone Africa

Cameroon’s selection is also expected to serve as the first step towards a wider expansion of the Ligue 1 McDonald’s experience across Francophone Africa.

Following the experimental season, the LFP and 6Sports will assess the results and lessons from the Cameroon experience before considering similar activations in other French-speaking African markets.

The ambition is ultimately to establish Francophone Africa as a structured development territory for the Ligue 1 McDonald’s brand, fan experience and commercial activation.

For 6Sports Marketing Advertising and its CEO N’Degué Barnabé Yannick, the project represents an opportunity to position Cameroon at the centre of a new relationship between French professional football, African supporters and the brands seeking to connect with them.
