Andre Onana Onana and Jerome Junior Onguene have become the first two players to publicly support recently-appointed Indomitable Lions of Cameroon head coach Marc Brys since his appointment close to a fortnight ago.

Onana of Manchester United FC and FC Servette’s Onguene took to social media to congratulate the new head coach and his crew while pledging their engagement to help the new team succeed.

“Good luck to the coach and his staff for this new phase. Unity and engagement,” Onana who was sent home from the 2022 FIFA World Cup on instructions of the previous staff wrote on Snapchat.

Onguene who has not been invited to the national team since March 2022 also took to the same platform to voice his support.

“For a better future of Cameroonian football, best of luck to every member of the new staff,” The former Red Bull Salzburg sweeper wrote.

Marc Brys was named coach of Cameroon just under two weeks ago in replacement of Rigobert Song whose two-year contract wasn’t renewed after he performed below par at the AFCON and the FIFA World Cup.

Unfortunately for the Belgian, his appointment has met huge resistance from president Samuel Eto’o of the Cameroon football federation FECAFOOT) and Eto’o loyalists who insist the government didn’t respect due procedures.

Despite the hostile experience, including not meeting FECAFOOT authorities so far, Marc Brys has kept his feet on the ground, signed his contract and engaged in delivering.

The new trainer is currently engaged in an infrastructures inspection tour across the country ahead of this first camp in June.

Cameroon will host Cape Verde Island and travel to Angola in the next two match days of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers – a chance for coach Brys to display his quality.

The likes of Kunde Malong, Fai Collins, Martin Hongla, Michael Ngadeu who were axed in an unexplainable manner now have a realistic chance of returning to the national team should they keep their form.
