FIFA Under-17 and Under-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers draw to be held in Egypt

The CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, will play host to the draws of the U17 and U20 FIFA women’s world cup qualifiers on Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Three teams will be vying for a place in the U17 women’s world cup in Chile, while only two countries can represent the continent in the U-20 global women’s event in South Korea.

In the U17 category, the draw will see over 29 countries group in six different pots according to region in order to play a four-round qualifying competition.

The first round is set for the ten least-ranked teams, with the winning five joining the remaining 19 in round two. This second phase will be played on a home and away basis, as the 12 aggregate winners are going to face off in the round of six.

Joined winners from this fourth round will immediately qualify for this tournament billed for 2024 in Chile. Tanzania, Nigeria, and Morocco represented Africa in the last edition in India.

The same format applies for the U20 World Cup qualifying round, with the slight difference being an increase in the number of participants. Over 40 entries are usually  received, with the 16 least-ranked teams going head-to-head in the first round.

After five rounds of intense competition between these sides, the last two countries standing will be Africa’s flagbearers in South Korea.
