  • The Patricia Berthelot Easter Cup 2024 is set to commence on April 8 at the Bepanda Annex Stadium, marking the ninth edition of this prestigious U18 youth tournament
  • Eight academies, including first-time participants and the previous champions, Elite de football Boisson du Cameroun (EFBC), are vying for the title in a week-long competition
  • The tournament promises to showcase the burgeoning talent of young footballers, with the opening match featuring Coton Sport de Garoua against Union Sportive de Abong Mbang

The anticipation for the Patricia Berthelot Easter Cup 2024 reached its peak as the technical meeting concluded this Sunday April 7, setting the stage for a thrilling display of youth football at the Bepanda Annex Stadium.

With the ceremonial handing over of equipment to the participating academies, the tournament is poised to kick off with great fanfare at the Bepanda Annex stadium on Monday April 8.

“We should expect a spectacle at the Easter Cup. Patricia Berthelot’s event is a wonderful showcase, and fans who are enthusiastic about youth football in Douala will live this experience all week” Nono Faubert Secretary of Ecole de football Boison du Cameroun told the press

This year’s lineup includes seasoned contenders and eager newcomers, all united by the dream of following in the footsteps of last year’s champions, EFBC.

As the U16 Indomitable Lions, Union sportive of Abong Mbang, Anafoot, and Aigle royale make their debut, the spirit of competition and camaraderie is already palpable.

Nono Faubert Secretary Elite du football boissons du Cameroun ( EFBC)explained the reason for these new addition.

“We have four new teams. Union Sportive of Abong Mbang and the Americans of the West Region are replacing Leopard Royal of Bertoua, who had been there since the first edition. We wanted to innovate and selected a suitable representative from the West Region. Abong Mbang played in the national inter-pools, and we were inspired by that, so we decided to give them a chance.

“Aigle Royale of Menoua, we understand, is doing a lot at the level of their academy. It’s important to encourage elite clubs to engage in player training, and when they undertake such initiatives, they will come in for Bamboutos of Mbouda, who had been there for some years now.

” Then there’s Anafoot, a young academy that is progressing. It’s normal we give them a chance to test themselves in a grand competition like this. I believe they will come with their best players who have integrated into elite clubs. Apparently, they have assembled their elite players within the age limit, so we are expecting a great tournament, especially since it’s the generation that had a great time at the Geremi Njitap tournament last June.

” The biggest innovation is the U16 national team; it’s the fruit of a consultation with the national technical directorate. We agree that the qualifiers for the next U17 AFCON, starting in November, should be approached in a more professional way, taking time to detect talents. It’s the first start, and I believe as we move forward, the technical staff will know how to arrange its group. These are U16 players who play for the national team, so I presume they are very talented and can rival the U18’s”.

The tournament, which runs until next Friday, is not just a battle for the cup but a celebration of the sport’s future stars.
