The Secretary General of CTFP, Faustin Mbida has a working visit in Bamenda to assess the available stadia for elite one football to play in the town.
The three venues visited included the Bamenda Municipal stadium, the Ntaafi proximity stadium and the Yong Francis Arena .
After three years of playing elite one football away from Bamenda, a return was celebrated as YOSA hosted AS fortuna on Matchday 8 . Reports that followed saw Matchday 10 taken away from Bamenda again to Mbouda. Finally on appeal from authorities of the region and the clubs concerned (PWD BAMENDA and YOSA) saw a need for reassessment of the stadia for official confirmation.
Faustin Mbida of the CTFP came to Bamenda this Tuesday 4th February and his visit saw a positive report on having the region to host elite one games .
“Here at the Yong Francis Arena, it is the first time we’re coming here, and we were surprised, based on what people told us, we thought we will be entering a forest, but we discovered that it is a good center and we entered here without any military escorts. We think despite the few lapses in this stadium, it is a stadium that can host Elite 1, Elite 2 and Guinness Super League matches, because it is a stadium that is up to standard and have dressing rooms, we just have the stands, then reserve benches and also the protective barriers which are not exactly what we’re expecting, but the stadium authorities gave us assurance that it will be sorted out. As for security, the Governor gave us assurance, so teams should not be afraid. For us the message is that matches can be played here,” the SG of CTFP Faustin Blaise Mbida said after visiting the Yong Francis Arena in mile 6 Nkwen.”
Faustin Mbida told Kick442 after a thorough assessment of the Yong Francis Arena which is the first approved venue from the visit .
The Bamenda Municipal stadium might be ready in three weeks and hopes are on the Ntaafi proximity stadium to be ready on time .
“PWD Bamenda won their first title playing their home games at the Yong Francis Arena.” Aliwoh Francis of PWD BAMENDA reacted after the confirmation of the arena while calling on fans to turn up in their numbers to support the team.
YOSA’s team manager was very excited with his home ground being chosen and he said “ coming back home is an added advantage .”
With the return of football to the north west region will we now see the North West teams improve in their performances?
