Los Angeles FC returned to winning ways with a professional 2–0 victory over a struggling Toronto FC side, as Jeremy Ebobisse marked his full debut with a clinical first-half goal and a standout all-round performance that earned him Man of the Match honours.

In a contest marked by key international absences, LAFC managed to adapt effectively without star forward Denis Bouanga and newly acquired striker Hyeon-gyu Son, both away on international duty.

Toronto, meanwhile, were without the influential Lorenzo Insigne through injury and failed to provide much attacking threat throughout the evening. The visitors also lacked sharpness in transition and were repeatedly undone by LAFC’s structure and speed on the counter.

Ebobisse, a former US youth international who is also eligible to represent Cameroon, seized his opportunity up front and delivered a performance full of movement, link-up play, and composure in front of goal.

First half: Ebobisse spark

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Ebobisse received a quick ball into the box, took a neat touch to shift it onto his left foot, and fired a low drive past the Toronto goalkeeper into the far corner. The goal not only gave LAFC the lead but also visibly settled the side, who began to dominate possession and dictate the tempo.
Toronto, in contrast, looked sluggish and disjointed, struggling to progress the ball through midfield or test LAFC’s defence.

Second half: LAFC control, second goal seals result

Toronto came out with slightly more intent after the break, but LAFC’s back line remained composed. The game was put beyond doubt in the 69th minute when Frankie Amaya finished off a rapid counterattack to double the lead. From there, LAFC comfortably saw out the match, rarely looking troubled as Toronto failed to muster a clear-cut chance.

Key performers & tactics

Ebobisse was central to everything positive for LAFC—his pressing, positioning, and clever hold-up play allowed LAFC to play through the lines despite missing their usual attacking stars. The midfield pairing shielded the defence effectively, while Amaya’s energy helped LAFC stretch Toronto throughout.

Toronto lacked cohesion in the final third and never looked like seriously threatening an LAFC side that managed the game intelligently from start to finish.

What this means

The win bolsters LAFC’s position in the Western Conference playoff race and offers optimism as they navigate a stretch without key internationals. For Toronto FC, the defeat underlines familiar struggles—particularly their reliance on absent stars and an ongoing inability to find consistency in attack.

Match statistics (selected)

Goals: Ebobisse (13’), Amaya (69’)

Man of the Match: Jeremy Ebobisse
