The 2023 edition of the Southwest Regional League (SWRL) will get underway this weekend at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

Newcomers Bright Stars of Kumba will square off against last year’s quarter-finalist Kumba City Council FC in the lunch time fixture while four-time champions Best Stars Academy of Limbe host Tiko United FC in the second game on Saturday March 4.

It is the second season in succession that Tiko United FC and Best Stars Academy find themselves in the same group in the championship. Last year Best Stars defeated Tiko United 2-1 in Limbe, few months after both sides separated on a 1-1 score in Tiko.

Bright Stars being a new club in the division will meet with City council for the first time in the regional championship.

These exciting fixtures will mark the return of the championship noted for its animating fixtures over the years.

Southwest is expected to crowd the Limbe Centenary stadium as besides the exciting fixtures, popular Artists Maxi Manorh, Big G Baba and a host of others will grace the event.

The rest of the league games for match day one will be played after the opening day.

Last year, Victoria United FC emerged champions of the Southwest Regional championship after defeating Best Stars Academy 4-0 in the final.

The next champion of the region to be produced from this competition will fly the flag of Southwest football during the 2023 national playoffs for promotion into the second tier championship.
