The Cameroon Basketball Federation has announced its roster for the Basketball Olympic qualifiers in Latvia, and star player Pascal Siakam is notably absent.

Initially included in the extended list, Siakam’s name did not make the final cut, as revealed on Wednesday, June 19. The reasons behind his omission remain uncertain, but recent reports suggest it may be due to his focus on club commitments.

According to reliable sources, Siakam, the former Toronto Raptors player, has recently signed a lucrative four-year deal with the Indiana Pacers, worth over $189.5 million.

Siakam’s absence is a significant loss for Cameroon’s campaign. He holds the distinction of being the third player to average 35 points and 10 rebounds in each of his first two playoff games. In 2024, he scored an impressive 367 points, the highest for a Pacers player since Paul George in 2014.

In response to Siakam’s absence, Coach Alfred Aboya has selected 15 players, including 14 international players and one from the Elite Basketball League in Cameroon—Kome Arnold of Fap de Yaoundé.

The team has been in training camp since June 16 in Riga, Latvia, and has scheduled two friendly matches ahead of the competition. They will face Egypt on Monday, June 24, followed by a match against Georgia two days later.

The final 12 players who will represent Cameroon in the tournament will be announced soon.

The Olympic qualifiers feature a six-team tournament scheduled to take place from July 2 to July 7. The winning team will secure a spot in the Summer Olympics.

Cameroon, placed in Group B, will kick off their campaign on Wednesday, July 3, against Montenegro.
