The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday, with several decisions expected to have direct implications for Cameroon and the future of football across the continent.
Chaired by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, the meeting comes at a crucial period as Cameroon continues its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign while also preparing for several upcoming CAF competitions.
For Cameroon, one of the major discussion points will be the ongoing WAFCON, where the Lionesses Indomitable have already secured qualification for the quarter-finals. CAF’s leadership is expected to assess the organisation of the tournament and review preparations for the knockout stages.
Attention will also turn to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with updates on preparations for the continental showpiece. Cameroon, five-time African champions, will be among the nations closely monitoring developments as qualification campaigns continue across the continent.
The Executive Committee will also discuss the future of CAF’s interclub competitions, including the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup. The decisions could impact Cameroon’s representatives in continental competitions next season.
Youth football is expected to feature prominently during the meeting. Members will receive updates on the U23 AFCON, the 2027 U20 AFCON in Ghana, preparations for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup and the 2027 U17 AFCON. CAF will also review plans for the newly created U17 Girls AFCON, another step in expanding opportunities for women’s football across Africa.
One of the most significant agenda items is the discussion on FIFA Forward Enterprise and proposals aimed at increasing football development funding. The outcome could prove important for member associations, including FECAFOOT, as CAF and FIFA continue to explore new ways of financing infrastructure, youth development and football projects across Africa.
The Executive Committee is also expected to launch the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 AFCON tournaments while approving both the competition format and hosting process for the proposed African Nations League, scheduled for 2029, 2031 and 2033.
Nigeria’s preparations to host the 2026 CAF Awards will also be reviewed, alongside discussions on increasing per diems for referees, VAR officials, match commissioners and other match officials.
The meeting will conclude with reports from CAF’s judicial bodies, including the Appeal Board and Disciplinary Committee, whose decisions often have implications for clubs, players and member associations.
For Cameroon, Thursday’s Executive Committee meeting could shape the country’s continental football landscape over the coming years, from club competitions and youth tournaments to development funding and future AFCON hosting opportunities.
