Brazil’s legend Pele, quits the scene at 82

Legandary Brazilian footballer, Edson Arantes do Nascimento commonly known as Pele, has passed away at the age of 82. News of his dead was confirmed on Thursday evening.

The three times World Cup winner has been battling colon cancer since September 2021, before the condition worsen around November and December 2022.

Pele’s wife Marcia Aoki and family spent Christmas day with the legend at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, with his daughter Kely Nascimento later on posting on Instagram “Another night with him.”

News of his passing on was announced on Thursday evening, with renounce Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirming via twitter.

“Brazilian legend Pelé has passed away at 82, one of the greatest of all time who changed the game. A man with a god-given talent, one of the names who will remain forever in the memory. All thoughts with the family,” Fabrizio wrote.

“King Pele,” is considered as one of the most talented players in football history. The former Brazilian forward scored more than 600 club goals for Santos and New York Cosmos, and is one of lead scorers for the Brazilian National team, with 77 goals scored in 92 appearances.

He won the world cup thrice, in 1958, 1962 and 1970, after making his debut for the Samba Boys on 7 July 1957, against Argentina at the Maracanã.
