Karim Bousseliou scored twice while CHAN 2022 Golden Boot winner Aymen Mahious scored the other as USM Alger outclassed Saint-Eloi Lupopo 3-0 in their first outing of this season’s TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The Congolese were second best to their classic Algerian opponents, who took control of the contest for the duration at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Baraki, Algeria.
Forwards Saadi Radouani and Bousseliou combined to put the hosts ahead barely seven minutes into the game. They pounced on a defensive mix up between the center-halves and their keeper.
That goal for USM set the tone of the night to forget for the men from Kinshasa.
Mahious came close to double the advantage in the 22nd minute, but his effort forced a great save from the Eloi shot stopper.
Eloi could have leveled before the pause but wasteful finishing let the Algerians off the hook.
The hosts took the 1-0 advantage to the break and recharged to return and do more.
Bousseliou doubled the lead in the 65th minute through an assist from Mahious, then Mahious scored in the final ten minutes to crown his efforts on the night.
The game ended on the 3-0 score, thus amounting to an easy victory for the men from the Algerian capital.
USM goes top of the CAF Confederation Cup group A, ahead of their next commitment in the competition this weekend like other participating clubs.
