Baciro Cande: Guinea Bissau coach gets highest national honour ahead of AFCON 2023

The National Football Coach of Guinea Bissau, Baciro Candé, was on Thursday awarded the Amílcar Cabral medal, the highest distinction (honour) in the country, for the feat achieved in national football.

Cande, with unavoidable successes in the national and African landscape, led Guinea-Bissau to the biggest stages of world and African football and guided the National football clubs.

The country reached the final stage of the African Championship of Nations (CHAN) for the first time in its history in 2017, with Guinean footballers.

To date, the National Team has achieved many feats of merit, particularly prominent for the fourth successive participation in the African Championship of Nations with great quality of play and determination for the country.

In addition to that, Baciro Cande took Guinea-Bissau to second place in the group phase of the qualification in the last edition of the FIFA World Cup.

Now his biggest dream is to put Guinea-Bissau at the World Cup.

The national coach, Cande, a native of Farim, northern Guinea-Bissau, played football in his youth before embracing a career as a football trainer. He has coached several clubs in national football with an emphasis on Bissau International Sports Union [UDIB], Black Star [FARP], Bairro Ajuda, NTFC BULA, and Sporting CGB.

Cande, as he is commonly known, has won several national champion titles, the Guinea Cup and the Super Bowl.

A former footballer, humble and conservative. He has always put in social cohesion between football players and others, since his youth, and continues to work for the good of the country.

The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, handed the National Football Team the medal Amílcar Cabral, the highest distinction in the country, as a sign of recognition of his work in the development of national football.
