President Walid Sadi of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has announced its executive committee’s decision to use the video assistant Referee technology in at least top-flight domestic championship matches from the start of the 2024/25 season.
“We will introduce VAR from next season,” he revealed during a recent interview.
This welcome development comes barely weeks after the first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in which the VAR was fully implemented in all 52 matches.
This move from the Algerian football Federation will enable Algerian Referees and players to better acquaint themselves with the technology.
Algeria joins the likes of Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa among others using the technology already.
The Tanzania Premier League is also on the verge of adoption of the VAR as a key element of the growth of the domestic.
