Akono Mendo, Dieudonne Onege on target as ISOHSA records historic victory against Chadian champions

Akono Davids Mendo and Dieudonne Onege scored their first goal of the season in a historic mid-season friendly as promising Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe picked up a deserved 2-0 victory against visiting AS PSI of Chad.

Second-half goals from the teenage forwards was enough for coach Nlend Ayme’s team to return to winning ways and restore their confidence on the heel of their back-to-back defeats in the MTN Elite Two championship.

The Chadian side that arrived Limbe barely 24 hours before the game couldn’t contain the rhythm set by captain Ashu Brice Tabi and mates in an afternoon ISOHSA showed it’s mantle against the current Chadian Premier League champions.

Both sides displayed glimpses of their credentials in the opening 45 minutes, but couldn’t take their chances, thus leaving the close to a thousand fans at the Limbe Centenary stadium on the edge of their seat due to the anxiety of seeing the first goal.

Onege who was part of the battery of substitutes introduced before the start of the second segment pounced on a goalkeeper howler four minutes upon resumption to put the Limbe boys in front to the excitement of the ISOHSA diehards.

Frank Ipoua that also came on in the second segment denied the Chadians on a couple of ocassions before Akono laid the game to bed.

Akono scored got the second for the 2023 interpools champions with a long range short from outside the box that left the keeper rooted to the spot.

The game finished 2-0 and was a significant confidence drive for the Limbe-based club as they prepare to hosts AS FAP on match day seven of the MTN Elite Two championship this Saturday in Limbe.

ISOHSA’s first-ever international game will go down on history as a win at home while AS PSI return to Chad this Wednesday to continue preparations for the next season and the CAF Champions League preliminaries.
