At 33, Nchout Njoya Ajara is coming home. The Cameroon international has officially joined Guinness Super League side Lekié FF, ending her long spell abroad and returning to the championship where her journey began. Ajara announced the move through a video published on her Facebook page, making it clear that this is more than just another transfer. “I have travelled the world, played in the biggest stadiums and carried the Cameroon flag high. Today, the story is being written where it all began,” she said. “I am back home.” Her contract details have not been made public.

Ajara leaves behind a remarkable international club career that has taken her across several countries and some of the biggest stages in women’s football. She started her career in Cameroon before moving to Russia, where she played for Energiya Voronezh and Rossiyanka. She later returned briefly to Cameroon before heading to the United States with Western New York Flash. Sweden followed with Sundsvalls DFF, before she moved to Norway, where she played for IL Sandviken and Vålerenga. Her career then took her to Spain with Atlético de Madrid, Italy with Inter Milan and, most recently, Saudi Arabia with Al Qadsiah. Along the way, she collected major domestic honours and established herself as one of Cameroon’s most recognisable female footballers.

Her return comes at a particularly exciting moment for Lekié FF. The club is preparing to represent Cameroon in the CAF Women’s Champions League after successfully coming through the UNIFFAC qualifying tournament. And with the continental tournament scheduled to begin in just a few weeks, Ajara arrives with the kind of experience that could prove invaluable against Africa’s best clubs. She has played at the highest levels of the European game and knows what it takes to perform when the pressure is at its highest.

For Lekié, signing Ajara is therefore about much more than adding another attacker to the squad. They are bringing in a player who has spent years competing internationally, playing alongside and against elite footballers and representing Cameroon on the biggest stages, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her leadership, personality and experience could be just as important as what she produces in front of goal as Lekié prepare for their biggest challenge yet.

And for Ajara, this is the beginning of a different chapter. After conquering stages in Europe, America and the Middle East, she has chosen to return to Cameroon and help raise the profile of the domestic women’s game. In a few weeks, she will be back on the continental stage — this time wearing the colours of Lekié FF. Ajara is back home, and Africa is about to see one of its familiar stars shine again.
