Given a total of 24 nations are to compete in Africa’s biggest setpiece next year in Cote D’Ivoire, 23 have already secured their spots in the final of the tournament, with only one ticket up for grabs.
The Cameroon vs Burundi clash will produce the 24th country to participate in this 34th edition of the tournament set to begin on January 13 to February 11 next year.
Cote D’Ivoire automatically qualified as host nation and has been joined by, Zambia, Senegal,
Nigeria,Egypt,Guinea,Burkina Faso,Cape Verde,Guinea Bissau,Ghana,Angola,Algeria,Tanzania,Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Namibia, Mali, DR Congo, Mauritania, Mozambique and the Gambia
Namibia though found on the list of qualified nations, her fate is yet to be determined after tomorrow’s last AFCON qualifying encounter in Garoua as they seat first in group C with 5 points.
A win for the Indomitable Lions against Burundi guarantees their place in the competition and of course should Cameroon be defeated by Burundi who needs just a draw, it will mark the end of the road for the five time champions.
Burundi stands a better chance of qualifying with a draw than Cameroon and for Cameroon to qualify with a draw it must be with atleast 4goals scored in tomorrow’s encounter to ensure they and the swallows qualify at the detriment of Namibia.
At the end of the final blast on Tuesday September 12, Africa will be set to witness a 24 team tournament next year after Cameroon or Burundi must have vied for a spot.
The Cameroon vs Burundi game will go underway at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua, exactly 8pm.
