Burkina Faso and Algeria played out a 2-2 draw in their second group match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday.
Mohamed Konate has the first goal initially ruled out for offside in the additional minutes of the second half. Referee Abongile Tom straight away reviewed previous situation with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), presumably for a possible offside in the build-up.
He later pointed to the centre spot to indicate that the goal stands after the VAR review as Konate goes wild in celebration.
In the 51st minute, Baghdad Bounedjah was in the right place at the right time to get to the rebound inside the box and gleefully rifled the ball low inside the left post for Algeria’s equaliser.
The Burkinababes got a chance to restore the lead in the 71st minute after a penalty was awarded to the West African side.
Bertrand Traore put the ball into the middle of the goal past the outstretched arm of Anthony Mandrea.
In the additional minutes of the second half, Baghdad Bounedjah rose high above the defence to head the ball over the goalkeeper and inside the net for the equaliser.
With four points from two games, Burkina Faso top the group ahead of Angola’s clash with Mauritania.
Algeria have two points and need a win in their last group game against Mauritania.
