Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar says the Indomitable Lions will “give everything” as they prepare for a decisive final Group D match against Angola, scheduled for Monday at 3pm in Yaoundé.

Cameroon must win and hope that Cape Verde slip in their final match in order to snatch the automatic qualification spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

“Every match is important. The last match is even more important. We’re going to give our all to win it,” Aboubakar said.
“The group has always been solid and will always remain solid.”

Fate Not Entirely in Cameroon’s Hands

Cameroon do not completely command their destiny. Even a victory over Angola will not guarantee qualification. They must hope Cape Verde fail to beat Libya. Only then would Cameroon leapfrog them to the top of the group.

“There’s no pressure,” Aboubakar added.
“We’ll try to finish this competition on a high note and then we’ll see what the others do. Our fate is not in our hands. If God thinks of us, He will do something to help us go through as one of the best second-placed teams.”

CAF Group D Standings (Before Final Matchday)

Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Cape Verde 🇨🇻 9 6 2 1 13 7 +6 20
2 Cameroon 🇨🇲 9 5 3 1 17 6 +11 18
3 Libya 🇱🇾 9 4 3 2 10 9 +1 15
4 Angola 🇦🇴 9 2 5 2 9 8 +1
5 Mauritius 9 1 2 6 8 18 -10
6 Eswatini 9 0 3 4 13 -9

Cape Verde top the group with 20 points, followed by Cameroon on 18, and Libya close behind with 15. Angola, Eswatini and Mauritius occupy the bottom three positions, but their full statistics were not included in the Reuters summary.

Cape Verde still retain control over their qualification: a win would guarantee them their first-ever World Cup berth, regardless of Cameroon’s result.
