The semi finalists for this year’s U-23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) were completed with the conclusion of Group B games on Saturday.
Egypt defeated ten players Gabon 2-0 to qualify for the semi final.
After Roy Mbongui was sent off for her second bookable offense in the 42nd minute, it was clear that Gabon would have a long and unpalatable day in the office against the North Africans.
Egypt in the last ten minutes of the game broke the Gabonese defense line and resilience as Mahmoud Saber broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute from Mostafa Saad’s assist.
Osama Faisal in the additional minutes of the second half doubled the lead for the Egyptians from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, Mali earned the same result over Niger Republic in the second Group B game. Second half goals from Mamadou Sangare from the penalty spot and Cheickna Doumbia ensured that Mali will join Egypt in the semi final.
Egypt top the group with seven points ahead of Mali with six points, Niger Republic (four points), and Gabon without a point.
