Canon striker and lead scorer in the MTN Elite One championship Emmanuel Mahop will return to Douala in under two weeks to cap what has been a brilliant first season on the books of the Mekok Megunda.
The former Union Sportive and Dynamo of Douala goalkeeper says he is expecting a warm reception as he returns to the town he made a name for himself as a netminder.
Besides his past in Douala, Mahop’s heroics in this season’s championship has made the 13-goal striker the attraction of the five-time Cameroon champions wherever they go.
“Yes playing in Douala will be an amazing experience for me. I expect a great reception. I hope Canon can achieve a great result at the playoffs,” Mahop told Evra Geraud in a recent interview.
Mahop scored 13 of the 31 goals scored by Canon of Yaounde, including the brace against Colombe in the 5-0 win which ensured that the club win their group in the championship.
The goalkeeper cum striker will be key for coach Souleymanou Aboubakar’s side if they want to end a 21-year trophy drought and win the Elite One championship for the fits time since 2002.
Canon open their playoff with an exciting game against Bamboutos FC on May 14, before facing Gazelle FA five days later and concluding the playoff on May 23 against defending champions Cotonsport of Garoua who are under the guidance of coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck who converted Mahop to a striker while they worked together at Akonangi FC in Equatorial Guinea.
