Cameroon player, Ngweni Deni Ndasi was on target for Nigeria Champions, Rivers United as the team defeated Asec Mimosa 3-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Champions, Rivers United returned to winning ways after last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Diables Noirs of Congo with a 3-0 win over Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast on Sunday in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage encounter.

The Ivorian side had an 18-match unbeaten streak in all competitions since its last loss to Horoya in October ahead of the match.

Two goals in the first half coupled with a goal in the second half by Cameroon import, Ndasi propelled the Port Harcourt-based side to a 3-0 win.

Malachi Ohawuma scored the first goal of the Stanley Eguma side with the first chance of the match in the first minute off Nwangwa Nyima’s assist at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Three minutes from halftime, Ukeme Williams doubled the host lead to give the Nigerian side a 2-0 halftime lead.

After the interval, Ndasi increased Rivers United’s lead to three in the 48th minute from Ebube Duru’s assist.

The win ensured that Rivers United moved to the second position in the group with three points after two games.

The team will next face Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Diables Noirs and Motema Pembe will trade tackles in the other group game with the former having a three points lead.

Motema Pembe and Asec Mimosa played out a 0-9 draw last weekend in both sides’ opening group games.
