Cameroon international Harold Moukoudi produced a commanding defensive performance against Real Madrid, but his individual efforts could not prevent AEK Athens from suffering a dramatic 3-2 home defeat in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old centre-back started and completed the entire encounter as AEK welcomed the Spanish giants, delivering a determined display against one of Europe’s most formidable attacking forces. Despite the gulf in European pedigree, the Greek side showed remarkable character, twice taking the lead and pushing the visitors to their limits.

AEK made a dream start through Aboubakary Koïta in the 12th minute, but Jude Bellingham restored parity for Real Madrid in the 32nd minute. The hosts refused to back down, with Stavros Pilios putting them ahead again in the 75th minute after Koïta’s contribution appeared to have put AEK within touching distance of a memorable result.

However, Real Madrid’s quality ultimately proved decisive. Kylian Mbappé levelled the score in the 78th minute before Federico Valverde struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner in the 92nd minute, silencing the home crowd and completing a painful comeback for the visitors.

For Moukoudi, it was a night of personal commitment overshadowed by collective disappointment. The Cameroonian defender stood his ground throughout the contest, but AEK’s inability to protect their advantage proved costly against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Despite the defeat, his full-match involvement against elite opposition represents another significant European test for the former Saint-Étienne defender.
