Ronald Ngah assists as Kuching City suffer late AFC Champions League Two heartbreak

Cameroonian forward Ronald Ngah was among the standout contributors for Kuching City FC, providing an assist as the Malaysian side suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Phnom Penh Crown in their opening AFC Champions League Two Group H fixture.

Ngah, a native of Tiko in Cameroon’s Southwest Region, started the continental encounter in Cambodia and played 78 minutes before being replaced by Ahmed Israiwah.

The former Njalla Quan Sports Academy and Coton Sport forward was lively in attack and played an important role in Kuching City’s attempts to break down the Phnom Penh Crown defence. His involvement included setting up Safawi Rasid for an effort in the first half, although the attempt was blocked.

Phnom Penh Crown eventually took the lead in the 55th minute through Moses Dyer, who finished from inside the box after being set up by Guytho Mijland.

Kuching City fought back and restored parity in the 73rd minute through substitute Ajdin Mujagić, giving the visitors hope of leaving Cambodia with a valuable point.

However, Dyer had the final say. The Phnom Penh Crown striker headed home in stoppage time following a cross from Long Phearath to complete his brace and condemn Kuching City to a painful 2-1 defeat.

Ngah’s appearance represents another important chapter in the continental journey of a player whose football development began in Cameroon. The Tiko-born attacker passed through Njalla Quan Sports Academy before making his mark with Coton Sport, one of Cameroon’s most successful clubs, prior to continuing his career abroad.

The defeat leaves Kuching City without a point after their opening Group H fixture, with Ngah and fellow Cameroonian Jerome Etame now turning their attention to the remaining group matches as they seek to keep their continental campaign alive.
