Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after holding defending champions Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw on the final day of the Super Six playoffs in Port Harcourt.

The Benin City side finished top of the standings with 10 points, sealing their second NWFL title and booking their place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, where they will represent Nigeria.

It marks another historic achievement for the Moses Aduku-led side, who previously lifted their maiden league crown in 2024 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Edo Queens’ title-winning journey was a story of resilience. They began the Super Six campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons but bounced back impressively in their remaining fixtures. They thrashed FC Robo Queens 4-1, hammered Super Six debutants Abia Angels 6-2, and then secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over hosts Rivers Angels before earning the crucial point against Bayelsa Queens that confirmed them as champions.

The title race went down to the final day with three teams still in contention. While Edo Queens played out a stalemate with Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons were also held to a 0-0 draw by Rivers Angels, ending their hopes of claiming the trophy. In the other fixture, Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens settled for a 1-1 draw.

Edo Queens finished the competition with a superior goal difference of +7. Bayelsa Queens ended second, while Nasarawa Amazons completed the podium places.

There was further success for the champions as prolific striker Atume Doosuur claimed the league’s Golden Boot award after finishing the season with 13 goals.

Speaking after securing the title, head coach Moses Aduku expressed gratitude for the achievement.

“It can only be God. We thank God for everything. We prepared fully and asked God to help us. He did it for us and we return all the glory to Him,” he said.

The latest triumph further cements Edo Queens’ growing status as one of the dominant forces in Nigerian women’s football as they now turn their attention to continental competition.
