The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) officially ushered in a new chapter in its history on Wednesday, May 13, with the grand inauguration of its brand-new headquarters in Warda, Yaoundé.
More than just the unveiling of a building, the ceremony symbolized the realization of a long-delayed dream and a bold statement of ambition for the future of Cameroonian football.
The two-day event attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including top administrative, military, and religious authorities, football stakeholders from across Cameroon and beyond, as well as renowned African football personalities.
Among the distinguished guests were African football icons such as Senegalese legend El Hadji Diouf and Nigerian great Jay-Jay Okocha, whose presence added prestige to an already historic occasion.
The ceremony was presided over by Cameroon’s Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, alongside the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, both representing the Head of State.
Also present was CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, whose attendance underscored the continental significance of the occasion. Addressing attendees, Motsepe praised the Cameroonian government and football authorities for their collaboration in delivering what he described as a state-of-the-art facility worthy of one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
A celebration of this scale would hardly be complete without the men who helped shape Cameroon’s rich football legacy.
Several former Indomitable Lions stars turned up to honor the milestone, including Rigobert Song, Stéphane Mbia, Timothée Atouba, Léandre Tawamba, Alex Song, Robert Ndip Tambe, Jean II Makoun, Achille Emana, and Raymond Kalla, among others.
Their presence served as a reminder of Cameroon’s standing as one of Africa’s most decorated football nations and the enduring heritage that this new headquarters seeks to preserve and elevate.
The completion of the project brings closure to a journey that spanned over 14 years.
Originally launched in the aftermath of the 2010 FIFA World Cup under former FECAFOOT president Iya Mohammed, the project stalled for years before being revived and completed under the leadership of current federation president Samuel Eto’o.
In an emotional moment during his speech, Eto’o paid tribute to the late visionary behind the project, acknowledging Iya Mohammed as the architect of the dream now brought to life.
“Iya Mohamed saw far beyond his generation. He was the origin of this beautiful dream. He understood what the history of our football needed: an administration that reflects the greatness of the Lions’ achievements. It took us more than fourteen years, but today, one of his players—now president—was determined to complete what he started. Today, his dream has become reality.”
Eto’o’s remarks were met with a standing ovation, one of the defining moments of the ceremony.
The newly inaugurated FECAFOOT complex features upgraded administrative offices, a modern synthetic training pitch, and multiple infrastructure spaces dedicated to football development. A hotel facility, currently under construction, is also expected to further expand the federation’s operational capacity.
With the doors now officially open, FECAFOOT’s new headquarters stands not only as an architectural achievement but as a symbol of renewed ambition—an institutional home designed to match the stature, history, and aspirations of Cameroonian football.
