To mark the International Day of Health, SPORTSMED Foundation paid a visit to Authentic Ladies of Douala on Tuesday, April 7, using the opportunity to sensitize players on mental health and overall well-being.

The non-profit organisation, which focuses on promoting sports health and research in Cameroon, said the initiative comes at a time when the demands of women’s football continue to grow, placing increasing physical and psychological pressure on players.

With the intensity of competition rising across the country, SPORTSMED Foundation considered it necessary to bring this form of education closer to female footballers, equipping them with practical knowledge to better manage stress, recovery, and team dynamics.

The session combined discussions with simple, engaging activities designed to help the players better understand key concepts around mental health and collective well-being. It ended with donations to the club, including basic supplies such as groundnut oil and soap, as well as chasubles and travel T-shirts. Drinks were also provided.

Beyond the outreach, both parties see this as the start of a working relationship aimed at supporting the team throughout the season and improving overall performance.

Authentic Ladies, one of three top-tier sides in Douala and the oldest among them still competing, have endured a difficult start to the season but are gradually finding form. The timing of this initiative is seen as important, with the league becoming increasingly competitive.

Across Cameroon, SPORTSMED Foundation remains one of the organisations actively pushing athlete welfare to the forefront, continuing to roll out initiatives that place health and well-being at the centre of performance.
