Nine Men Canon of Yaoundé picked up a well deserved 2-0 win over Victoria United FC of Limbe in their final game of the MTN elite one championship first round, courtesy of Junior Ebogo’s 61’ opener and Paul Pascal’s dramatic stoppage time winner.

Canon becomes the first Elite one team this 2025/26 season to win a match despite having two players sent off in the game at the Ngeme Omnisport stadium on Sunday, April 5, 2026

Canon suffered a setback in under five minutes after two of its key players; Vitalise Bang and Wilfred Nathan Douala were sent off.
However, the focused visiting side held their nerve until the referee’s final whistle, to back home all three points.

Despite Victoria United piling on the pressure with their man advantage, they were unable to secure an equaliser, with goalkeeper Duande making several stops to deny the host a chance.

Both teams were unable to break the deadlock before the break as Victoria United were wasteful in front of goal.

Canon’s midfield sensation Wilfred Nathan Doualla had an engaging game before his premature exit from this encounter. He missed a glaring chance to put Canon ahead around half the hour mark, after a swift pass from Steve BELOBO from the right flank but Nathan’s quick attempt on goal went wide off target.

Ebogo drew the curtain raiser 61 minutes into the game, shortly after Vitalise was shown red for a second unpardonable foul. With doubled efforts in an attempt to secure the midfield and create possible chances for a second, Nathan violently fouled an opponent leading to a straight red card.

Patrice Noukeu made changes that worked for his side after the setback and Canon went on to grab a win after coming off a defeat to gazelle on matchday 12, same as Victoria United who have now suffered back to back defeats at home.

Canon’s victory which comes on the last day of the first phase of the league sees them move up to sixth place with 19 points. But just one point clear off ninth place OPOPO

The four time league champions who started off the season with a series of poor results, finish the first phase with five wins, four draws, four defeats.

Meanwhile 2023 champions Victoria United have lost five, won five, drawn three.
