Hamadou Bi Ibrahim, wearing jersey number 708 and representing Afeum-Alah Athletics Club of Awing in the Mezam Division, has claimed victory in the men’s category at the 2026 edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, securing the top prize and etching his name into the history of Cameroon’s most prestigious mountain competition.

The young athlete produced a dominant display on the demanding slopes of Mount Cameroon, outclassing a competitive field to finish first in the senior men’s race. His powerful ascent and composed descent proved decisive on the punishing volcanic terrain, allowing him to take control of the race and maintain his lead to the finish line in Buea.

Representing Afeum-Alah Athletics Club, Hamadou Bi Ibrahim has now elevated both his club and community to national prominence. His triumph is a major milestone for Awing in the Santa subdivision of the North-West Region, with celebrations erupting across Mezam Division as supporters hailed their champion.

Often described as Africa’s toughest mountain race, the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope stretches between 38 and 42 kilometres depending on category. Athletes face extreme elevation gains, rocky trails, loose volcanic ash near the summit and unpredictable weather conditions — a true test of endurance, strength and tactical intelligence.

With this victory, Hamadou Bi Ibrahim not only secures the winner’s prize money but also cements his status among Cameroon’s elite mountain runners. His performance in the 2026 edition will be remembered as a defining moment in the race’s rich history.
