February 8, 2026, will remain engraved in the hearts of Tiwa Lys-Fraiche Melong and lovers of Cameroon women’s football, for her contributions in bringing to the league the grandeur it deserves with her impeccable performance and goal scoring ability, registering six goals in the last two official League matches.
Tiwa who was part of those sidelined from Cameroon’s U20 Women’s squad ahead of a crucial game at home on Saturday, Febuary 7, responded with a hat trick in the opening game of the 2025/26 Guinness Super League as Lekie Filles thrashed Authentic FC of Douala 5-1.
The incredible performance earned her the Woman of the Match Award, making her the first Woman of Guinnessico this season. A big statement to FECAFOOT on how important she is to the National team.
The U17 lionesses captain helped the defending champions begin their title defense on good footing as they win at a third title in this sixth edition of Women’s toptier football in Cameroon and is currently the top scorer after the first day of play.
She dazzled with her performance last season wherein she scored 22 goals including a hat trick in the final match against Cyclone which proved decisive in securing not only the title but the golden boot. In addition to the goals, she delivered three assists in 19 matches in the Guinness Super League, and ultimately emerged as the season’s top scorer.
The 22 goals scored became the highest total ever for a Guinness Super League top scorer, surpassing the combined goals of the two joint top scorers the league has produced; Marie Ngah Manga and Farida Machia, in 2023.
In the women’s super Cup, Lekie Filles was able to count on Tiwa who netted two goals and with the U17 Women’s national team, she scored 10 goals and registered four assists in 12 matches across all competitions.
Her meteoric rise makes her one of the most promising young footballers on the African continent.
Tiwa was amongst seven players of coach Hassan Balla’s squad dropped on the eve of their first leg U20 World Cup qualifier against Botswana at home, following a disciplinary decision by the Cameroon Football Federation.
These players paid the price for their involvement in a sit down protest after the suspension of former U17 head coach Joseph Ndoko days before the commencement of the U17 Women’s World Cup in Morroco last September, asking for the reinstatement of their coach in a viral video.
The decision left coach Hassan Balla with a reduced squad as Cameroon prepared for the crucial tie, sparking fresh debate over discipline and governance within FECAFOOT.
Nonetheless, the U20 lionesses picked up a resounding 5-0 victory over Botswana on February 7, in the first leg of the third round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Poland. On home turf at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, the Cameroon U-20 Lionesses who showed no mercy to their opponents took total control of the match from start to finish netting two goals in the first half, before adding three more after the break.
With this emphatic victory, Cameroon sends a clear message ahead of the return leg scheduled this week.
