Colombe Sportive seek first win as they face Gazelle FA in Garoua

Colombe Sportive of the South return to MTN Elite One action on Wednesday afternoon with a crucial away fixture against Gazelle FA of Garoua, as Cameroon’s top-flight season continues into its second round of matches.

Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 local time at the Roumde Adjia Annex Stadium, where the Doves of the South, the defending champions, will be aiming to stay in touch with the early pace-setters after being held to a draw by Cotonsport last weekend.

That opening-day stalemate left Colombe with a point from their first outing, and head coach Richard Towa is keen to see his side turn promise into victory as early as possible in the campaign.

The champions also travel north aware of the challenge posed by Gazelle FA, who pushed them all the way in last season’s title race, finishing just behind Colombe after a tense and closely fought campaign.

On Tuesday afternoon, the squad held their final training session at the CENAJES Stadium in Garoua, with the technical staff placing particular emphasis on speed, movement and finishing in front of goal. The mood in camp, club sources say, is one of determination and confidence.

Colombe have emerged in recent seasons as one of the most competitive sides in domestic football, and another strong start is seen as vital if they are to sustain a title challenge in a league traditionally dominated by clubs from the north of the country.

Elsewhere in Garoua on Wednesday, defending heavyweights Cotonsport will take on Aigle Royal of Moungo in the other MTN Elite One fixture scheduled for the city, in what is expected to be another tightly contested encounter.

With early points already proving valuable, Wednesday’s matches could offer the first clear indication of which teams are ready to set the tone for the new season.
