- Angu Lesley has tipped Morocco to organize the best AFCON tournament in history later this year
- Morocco’s sporting and auxiliary infrastructural preparation for the tournament has been simply mind-blowing
- The 2025 tournament in the Kingdom of Morocco will be the first with nine hosting venue, 25 training pitches and four venues in one city (Rabat)
Morocco is set to host one of the best Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments of all-time, experienced football man, Angu Lesley Ngwa has told kick442.com.
According to the football promoter and writer, the Kingdom of Morocco has put together more than the minimum requirement for a successful tournament and visitors to Morocco for the December-January soccer frenzy should brace themselves up for an unprecedented experience on and off the pitch.
“The first victory for organisers and host (Morocco) is we are a few months before the tournament and people (Media) aren’t talking about unpreparedness, postponement or even moving the hosting responsibility to another country as it has been the case in recent tournaments.

First game at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium
“Morocco that already had the more than the minimum six match venues for the 24-nation tournament has rather gone all out and built a new 64000 capacity Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat and inaugurated it with the 5-0 mauling of Niger last Friday. The new Moulay Abdellah edifice takes the tally of stadia available for the tournament to nine, in addition to 25 training pitches,” Angu detailed.
As the football writer puts it, the usual hustle and numerous CAF inspection visits to the AFCON host haven’t happened this time around. Instead Morocco has been strengthening its host capacity by hosting multiple events, including the upcoming Women’s U-17 FIFA World Cup.
With just under 100 days before the December 21 kick-off of the AFCON, all seems set for Africa’s prestigious soccer get together. Angu who has spent the last week touring AFCON facilities in Morocco explained further.
“It takes gods and confidence in a nation’s works to invite over a hundred media and football people to come and see the state of progress in preparation for the AFCON. In a week here, moving from Casablanca to Tanger, then Agadir, Marrakech and the main venue in Rabat, what l have seen in terms of sporting infrastructures, transport, hospitality and other required facilities has been simply stunning.”
“Morocco will provide a different experience and perspective about the AFCON,” Angu added.
Angu, the vice president of the Cameroon association of Sports Journalists with close to ten tournament experience has also predicted an exciting AFCON tournament with more close contested matches across the tournament.

“The fact that Morocco has a good team these days and the team is almost at its prime adds the excitement and interest. This almost guarantees interest of all Moroccans in the great Kingdom and beyond. This aspect will make for greater followership of what promises to be a more competitive tournament. The likes of host Morocco, usual dark horse – Cameroon, South Africa, Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria and defending champions Cote D’Ivoire are all in with a shout and hunger to be on the table on coronation day. I can’t wait to see the kickoff of this particular AFCON.”

Morocco last hosted the continent for the AFCON in 1988. They have taken close to four decades to prepare themselves for this one and look fired up for it and the search of the first continental crown since the only one secured some 49 years ago.
The Kingdom has put all together for a great tournament, the onus is now on the actors representing the 24 nations to deliver on the pitch by showcasing African talent and hunger to win.
The first ball of the tournament will be kicked by either a Morocco or Comoros player on December 21 at the newly-built Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat and matches will run across eight other venues in Fes, Tanger, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat till January 18 when the final will be played where it all started.
