Work at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde which saw a temporary halt two weeks back, is set to resume on Monday, January 16,2023.
This was confirmed by the Minister of sport and physical education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi as well as the Vice President of the Magil Construction, Frank Metiere on Friday, January 13.
Work had been stopped at the 60,000 capacity stadium due to the premature termination of the Canadian firm’s contract with Cameroon for reasons not clearly defined.
On December 21, Magil construction company sent a second letter to the ministry of sport after a first was sent on December 6, stating they are putting an end to their work term amd would only meet in an international court on January 5,2023.
It is obvious both parties have embraced themselves behind the scene for them to confirm work will continue from where it stopped.
Magil has been in charge of the construction project since 2019 when they took over from Italian company , PICCINI whose contract was terminated.
The Olembe sports complex is no where near completion giving that a gymnasium, tennis court, Olympic swimming pool, Volleyball, basketball and handball courts are yet to be put in place.
The project has been on for almost a decade and has consumed much more than the initial 155 Billion estimated budget for the construction project.
