  • Rayo Vallecano will become Eto’o’s seven club in a globetrotting football journey that has taken him through Mallorca, Baleares U19, Real Oviedo U19, Vitoria Guimaraes U23, Poblense and CUC Villalba
  • Etienne will continue in a championship he has spent a number of years in or around
  • The forward has signed a one-year-contract at Rayo

21-year-old Cameroonian forward Etienne Eto’o Pineda has joined fifth tier Spanish championship side Rayo Vallecano B.

Etienne, the son of former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward Samuel Eto’o was unveiled as a Rayo Reserves player on Tuesday after they completed formalities for a switch from fellow fifth tier side CUC Villalba.

Etienne had a great last season at CUC Villalba – scoring 15 goals in 30 matches which to some pundits was enough to earned him a bigger contract in a higher tier, unfortunately it wasn’t to be as he stays in the same championship.

Etienne became a free agent last June 30 but didn’t face a long wait before joining the Tercera Division side that finished 15th last season.

The 1.91m tall striker who will be 22 in August is the first signing for Rayo this summer and have enough time to prepare for the new campaign at his new home.

Fans of the Mallorca-born forward who has represented Cameroon at U-17, U-20 and U-23 categories are hoping their man finally peak at his new club and face an upward trajectory especially as expectations have been high all these years, largely thanks to the unthinkable achieved by his father for club and country.
