For the third year running South African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be playing in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The 2021 champions won the game of tactics after a 1-0 victory against 2022 winners and Moroccan champions, AS FAR FC at Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Khorogo, Ivory Coast on Wednesday.
The Moroccans had won one of the previous two encounters between both sides with the other match ending in a 0-0 draw in 2021 ahead of the semi-final match.
The North Africans started the game on the front foot and should have taken the lead but for their wastefulness in the final third.
Jerry Tshabalala’s side survived the storm and recovered in the second period forcing Moroccan first-choice goalkeeper, Khadija Er-rmichi into double saves.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 72nd minute as AS FAR FC players failed to clear a corner kick launched into the box, giving Boitumelo Rabale the chance to score the winner.
Sundowns had the last chance of the game to extend their lead but Er-rmichi was alert to save the dying-minute opportunity.
The South Africans maintained their perfect run in the tournament with four wins out of four games heading into the final.
Ampem Darkoa (Ghana) or Sporting Club Casablanca (Morocco) will face Sundowns in Sunday’s final depending on the result of the send semi-final in San Pedro.
