Nigerian heavyweight boxer Efe Ajagba has successfully defended his WBC Silver belt by defeating Australia’s Joe Goddal in a rematch of their 2014 Commonwealth Games bout.

Ajagba, who lost to Goddal by a controversial split decision in Gold Coast, got his revenge by dominating the fight and forcing the referee to stop it after four rounds.

Ajagba, who improved his professional record to 19-1, 14 KOs, used his height and reach advantage to keep Goddal at bay and land powerful shots to his head and body.

Goddal, who suffered his third loss in 25 fights, showed courage and resilience, but could not match Ajagba’s speed and strength. The Australian was visibly hurt and exhausted by the end of the fourth round, when the referee decided to intervene and save him from further punishment.

Ajagba, who won the WBC Silver belt in July 2022 by knocking out Frank Sanchez, expressed his satisfaction with his performance and said he was ready to face bigger challenges in the heavyweight division. He also thanked his fans and his team for their support and dedication.

“I feel great, I feel happy, I feel proud. I did what I had to do to win this fight and prove myself. Goddal is a tough fighter, he beat me before, but today I showed him who is the boss. I want to thank God, my fans, my coach, my manager, and everyone who helped me to get here. I am the WBC Silver champion and I am not afraid of anyone. I want to fight the best and become the undisputed champion of the world.” Ajagba said after the fight.

With the WBC Silver belt around his waist, Ajagba has his eyes set on the ultimate prize: the WBC heavyweight title, currently held by Tyson Fury. The Nigerian boxer is ranked 7th by the WBC and is determined to rise up the ladder and challenge the champion.
