ASFAR to open women’s Champions League defence against Ampem Darkoa

Holders, ASFAR FC of Morocco will start their title defence in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League against Ghanaian opposition and West African Zone B (WAFU-B) champions, Ampem Darkoa.

The draw for the third edition of the tournament took place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast capital, on Monday.

The eight qualified teams were drawn into two groups of four.

Host and debutant, Athletico FC in Group A will face another debutant, Sporting Club (SC) Casablanca of Morocco.

Another debutant, JKT Queens of Tanzania, and 2021 winners, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa complete Group A.

Group B houses ASFAR FC (Morocco), Ampem Darkoa (Ghana), Huracanes (Equatorial Guinea), and AS Mande (Mali).

The competition will kick off on November 5 in Ivory Coast and serve as a test run for next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and ASFAR FC won the first two editions of the tournament.
