Cameroon’s northern city of Garoua is dancing to the rhythm of the National Team 24 hours before their AFCON qualifiers against Burundi.
Moki Reagan reports on Facebook, “A crowd of supporters has gathered across major roundabouts, from Carrefour Cicam, Sodecoton, Yeloi-Balmaeri, and other popular junctions dressed in the colors of the nation, with emblems signifying the Indomitable Lions.
Rehearsals for match-chants and dance-steps are on in small localities, consisting of both the locals and fans from other cities.”
This gigantic support is telling of the hunger harbored by the inhabitants of Garoua, who haven’t hosted the national team’s official matches in the last decade.
However, a defining point for this match has been the mobilization from officials as well. For a 30,000 capacity Roumde Adjia Stadium, some political heads have been giving out free tickets. Cameroon’s Health Minister Manaouda Malachi, for example, has offered 100 tickets to fans wishing to live this experience.
Garoua is known for its undiluted love for football, one that the world will be reminded of tomorrow.
In addition, the Cameroon Football Federation earlier announced that only those accredited or in possession of tickets will gain access into the stadium.
While the action unfolds in Garoua, other cities will watch from their home screens, others in snack bars and other leisure points.
