Gabriel Abdala Zakwani, the deputy coach of the U-20 national team of DR Congo says it’s time for his nation to stand up and be counted in the category.
Zakuani who featured three Africa Cup of Nations and skippered his country made the declaration on Friday as his nation build up for the opener of the 2023 UNIFFAC U20 Fatshi Cup tournament on home soil.
Speaking to the media in the Conference room of the country’s football federation, the former Stoke City and Fulham defender didn’t hide their ambitions.
“We have an objective to win this trophy, but we cannot put the kids under much pressure.
“Our U20s in DR Congo haven’t really been up to standard. It is time for us to show the world that there is talent here, Coach Gabi said.
“We are going into the tournament with joy and will. We had a great preparation and we hope that the players will put everything they learned in practice.
DR Congo face Gabon in the opening this Saturday before facing RCA on Tuesday.
Guy Bukusa team will conclude their tournament against Congo on July 7.
The team with the highest number of points after three group games will be crowned champions.
