After a devastating 77-80 loss to Senegal in the quarter finals of the FIBA AFROBASKET competition, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon are making amends in the Classification game.

Thursday’s 5-8 classification match at the BK arena witnessed a triumphant 74-37 win by team Cameroon over Guinea.

Familiar after their group meeting, The Lionesses made sure their opponents had a tough time in the first three sets before failing in the last quarter.

Against Guinea, Carine Silatsa accounted for13 points, 10 rebounds and one assist while 24-year-old Masseny Kaba lived up to expectations for the Guineans with 15 points scored.

The first three minutes saw an outstanding performance by Cameroon’s point guards to deprive Guinea of any points. By the end of the first quarter, Pointer Masseny Kaba and her Guinean teammates managed just four points against Cameroons twenty (24-04)

Sloppy start by team Cameroon in the second quarter. From committing personal fouls to Jump shots missed, Guinea profited off this situation but couldn’t do much, as it ended 18-11 in favor of Cameroon.

The third set was more of a repeat of the first quarter with more aggressiveness from the Lionesses substitution. Marina Ewodo and teammates settled for a 25:10 win, 67-25 overall.

A 7:12 win in the last quarter could not compensate for the last three failures. Nevertheless, Guinea leaves the tournament with joy of reaching their first quarter finals since 1994, after offsetting two – times winner Angola.

Cameroon meets with another familiar Face, Mozambique, this Friday, August 4,2023.
